Krist\u00f3f Szab\u00f3 stages Walter Hasenclevers \u201eAntigone\u201c in Theatre Deep Red (Theater Tiefrot) <\/em><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/em>End time mood in Theater Tiefrot.<\/p>\n

The stage is a battlefield; bizarre figures wrapped in black plastic are about to hastily bury human corpses. The war is over – people celebrate King Creon jubilantly for his victory. In the back, images of the war in Iraq flicker. Bush and Hitler. \u201cThebes shall live!\u201d – is the slogan. And the \u201eThebes Sun\u201c writes: \u201cNo grave for the cadaver of Polynices\u201d. Antigones\u00b4s brother was one of the enemies. By the kings\u2019 decree his sister is not allowed to bury him but she does it – as it is well known – anyway.<\/p>\n

It is not \u201cAntigone\u201d by Sophocles that can be seen in Theater Tiefrot, but the anti-war-drama by Walter Hasenclever (1890-1940), written 1917 under the impression of World War I. In the adaptation from Krist\u00f3f Szab\u00f3 it became a fascinating multi-media-performance, presenting a spectacle including dance, music, projections, figurines (B\u00e4rbel Nolden), fantastic costumes (Szab\u00f3 and Emese Kasza) that offers plenty of sights worth seeing.<\/p>\n

With his 10 performers Szab\u00f3 develops a passionate appeal for Humanity. Not the luminary Antigone (grippingly portrayed by Ursula W\u00fcsthof) is the centre of attention, but – possessed by hunger for power – the despot Creon, who celebrates his victory with a true Witches Sabbat – one of the high points of the staging. Dimitri Tellis measures the spectrum of the tyrant, who goes mad, has a nervous breakdown and wins later purification with frightening intensity.<\/p>\n

But it is too late. Antigone is dead, like a Jesus-apotheosis she stands in a flaming red dress on a high platform, a victim in the name of all the righteous. And an alarm signal for fragile democracies.“<\/p>\n

Endzeitstimmung im Tiefrot.<\/p>\n

Die B\u00fchne ein Schlachtfeld, bizarre Gestalten in schwarzen Plastik-H\u00fcllen wollen menschliche Kadaver verscharren. Der Krieg ist aus; man jubelt dem Sieger K\u00f6nig Kreon zu. Im Hintergrund flimmern Bilder von Irakkrieg. Bush und Hitler. \u201eTheben soll leben!\u201c so die Parole. Und die \u201eTheben Sun\u201c titelt \u201eKein Grab f\u00fcr Polyneikes \u00dcberrest!\u201c Antigones Bruder geh\u00f6rte zu den Feinden, die Schwester darf ihn laut k\u00f6niglichem Dekret nicht bestatten, tut es bekanntlich aber doch.<\/p>\n

\"ANTIGONE\"<\/p>\n

Nicht Sophokles\u00b4 \u201cAntigone\u201c ist im Tiefrot zu sehen, sondern das Anti-Kriegs-Drama von Walter Hasenclever (1890-1940), 1917 unter dem Eindruck des Ersten Weltkriegs geschrieben. In der Adaption von Krist\u00f3f Szab\u00f3 wurde daraus ein fesselndes Multi-Media-Spektakel, das mit Elementen von Tanz, Musik, Projektionen, Figurinen (B\u00e4rbel Nolden) und fantastischen Kost\u00fcmen (Szab\u00f3 und Emese Kasza) eine Menge Schauwerte bietet.<\/p>\n

\"ANTIGONE\"<\/p>\n

Auf kleinstem Raum entfaltet Szab\u00f3 mit seinen zehn Akteuren einen glutvollen Appell an die Menschlichkeit.<\/p>\n

Im Mittelpunkt steht weniger die Lichtgestalt Antigone (ergreifend: Ursula W\u00fcsthof) als der machttrunkene Despot Kreon, der seinen Sieg mit einem wahren Hexensabbat feiert \u2013 ein H\u00f6hepunkt der Inszenierung. Dimitri Tellis misst das Spektrum des Tyrannen bis zum Zusammenbruch im Wahnsinn und sp\u00e4ter L\u00e4uterung mit be\u00e4ngstigender Intensit\u00e4t aus. Doch es ist zu sp\u00e4t. Antigone ist tot, wie eine Jesus-Apotheose steht sie im flammend roten Dress auf hohem Podest, ein Opfer im Namen aller Gerechten. Und ein Warnsignal f\u00fcr br\u00fcchige Demokratien. (BS)<\/p>\n
